How to choose best-matched backpack materials?

There are many types of backpacks, such as computer backpacks, travel backpacks, anti-theft backpacks, etc. Different backpacks use different materials, and today I will introduce some common backpack materials. let’s jump into it!

Usually, when we buy a backpack, the description of the fabric on the instructions is not very detailed, it just says CORDURA or HD, it says only one method of weaving. But the detailed description should be material + fiber degree + weaving method. For example, N. 1000D CORDURA, which means it is 1000D nylon CORDURA material.

Many think that the “D” in woven materials stands for density, which is incorrect; D is short for Denier. It is the unit of measure of fiber. The calculation is: 1 gram for every 9,000 meters of thread is called Denier, so the smaller the number in front of D, the thinner and less dense the thread. For example, the 210D material has an excellent grain and is usually used as a lining or compartment for bags. The 900D or 1000D material has a thick grain and thick thread, which is very wear-resistant and is generally used as a cover.

First of all, the raw materials of the fabrics used in the bags are Nylon and Poly, and occasionally they are mixed, and Poly is polyethylene, both of which are extracted from oil. Fabric-wise, Nylon feels a little softer in hand.

Widely used backpack materials

1.OXFORD

The warp thread of oxford spinning is woven from two strands, while the weft thread is also made from relatively thicker yarn. Its weaving method is one up and one down, which is a very general weaving method—generally, 210D, 420D material. The reverse side is coated. Use it as a lining or compartment of a backpack.

2.KODRA

KODRA is a fabric produced in Korea. To some extent, it can replace CORDURA. It is said that the inventor of this fabric originally wanted to study how CORDURA is spun, but in the end, he did not study it but invented a new fabric, which is called KODRA. The fabric is also woven from Nylon, which is also based on the strength of the fiber, e.g., 600D, 1000D. The reverse is coated, about the same as CORDURA.

3.HD

HD is short for High Density, which stands for high density. Look at the fabric and OXFORD pretty much. Generally, 210D, 420D, usually used as the lining or compartment of the bag. The reverse side is coated.

4.R/S

R/S is short for Rip stop. This fabric is nylon with small squares. It’s tougher than regular nylon, and the fabric is made of a thicker thread on the outside of the square. The middle of the square is woven with a very fine thread. There are 300D, 330D, 450D and so on, which can be used as the main material of the backpack, such as the large noodles, the outer pocket and other parts. The reverse side is coated.

5.Poly PU

Generally use Poly instead. Poly densities are generally 64t (low), 74t (medium), 82t (high). The fabric is getting stronger from 150D to 1800D. It can be used as the bottom of a hiking bag with a general strength of 600D, but its weaving method is not as strong as CORDURA.300D, 330D, 450D and so on, which can be used as the main material of the backpack, such as the large noodles, the outer pocket and other parts. The reverse side is coated.

6.Air mesh

It is called space net in general Chinese, which is different from the broad net. It has a gap between the mesh surface and the material underneath, usually 3mm or a bit larger. It is this kind of gap that gives it good ventilation, so it is usually used as a backstrap or back or other places that are close to the body. There are many sizes of standard nets, and nylon nets used on bags are generally only placed on the sides of the bag as a clutter pocket or water pocket.method is not as strong as CORDURA.300D, 330D, 450D and so on, which can be used as the main material of the backpack, such as the large noodles, the outer pocket and other parts. 7.Polyester - Polyester fiber

Also known as POLYESTER, is characterized by good breathability and moisture drainage. There is also a strong resistance to acids and alkalis, and resistance to UV rays.

8.Nylon

Polyamide fibers. Advantages are high strength, high abrasion resistance, high chemical resistance and good resistance to deformation and aging. The downside is a stiffer feel in the hand. The more famous ones are PERTEX, CORDURA.
